Purpose
Arohanui Strings+ provides free music education in communities where access to sustained instrumental learning is limited. This policy explains how families enquire, how places are considered, and how waitlists are managed.
Enquiry first
The website is not a direct entry point into programmes. Families should register interest through the form or contact the team. Arohanui Strings+ will then advise on eligibility, availability, the appropriate programme pathway and any waitlist process.
Eligibility and priorities
Programmes are intended for tamariki and rangatahi aged 6–16 in the communities Arohanui Strings+ serves: Taitā/Pomare, Moera, Wainuiomata, Stokes Valley, Miramar / Strathmore Park, Newtown and Mt Cook. Anyone who is eligible under the 2026 Admissions Policy is welcome. Arohanui Strings+ does not audition prospective participants. When demand exceeds available places, priority may consider community connection, school or partner referral, readiness for the available pathway, family circumstances, instrument availability and the balance of the ensemble.
Waitlists
Where no suitable place is available, a child may be placed on a waitlist. The team will contact families when an appropriate opportunity becomes available. Waitlist timing depends on programme capacity, instrument availability and the child's fit for the available pathway.
Placement decisions
Placement decisions are made by Arohanui Strings+ staff in the best interests of the child, the programme group and available resources. The team may recommend a different programme type or a later intake if that better supports the child.
Cost
Arohanui Strings+ programmes are free for participating families. Instruments are provided where needed, subject to availability and suitability.
